...And then there were 23; & Project Brainstorming
Wednesday morning. Our numbers in lecture this morning will be one less...one of our fellows had to leave the program. It's a little bit of a mental blow--as we get further into the fellowship, our cohort becomes more bonded, a family of amazing women. But we go on, as 23 strong now. And I'll definitely be keeping in touch with her--she's a bright, spirited, and generous woman, and I'm very glad to have made a friend in her.
In other subject matter...
A little more elaboration on my project idea. I mentioned I'm going to be doing a music visualizer--I've been brainstorming possibilities for how I want it to work, look like, what music sources to use, etc. I'd love to be able to somehow tie it into Spotify, but that's likely going to be a dicey proposition, as I'm guessing there would be a lot of licensing issues to contend with. We'll see. I won't be too fussed if I can't go that route though--though I use Spotify regularly, I use Soundcloud even more frequently (as my friends who are DJs/producers, and most of my other favorite DJs/producers, have their tracks & mixes on Soundcloud). I've looked into tons of music visualizers out there, especially seeking out Soundcloud visualizers, and I've come across a few of those that are really cool, as well as any number of other amazing projects.
I'll preface this link by saying that it's WAY BEYOND the scope of a project for this course and my current understanding of programming. It would be a *long* time before I'd be able to create anything close to this. But it's so epic, I have to share.
APEX VJ Music Visualizer
So, now that you've seen the cream of the crop of music visualizers, here's one for Soundcloud that seems realistic for the scope of my project.
Soundcloud Visualizer
I've taken a look at the code, and while it's pretty complicated (very math-y!), I don't think that it's beyond what I could accomplish. I'll be discussing this with my advisor during our session this afternoon, showing him the source code, and then I'll have a better idea of possibilities and how to proceed.
(Here's the Github repository for that project:)

Getting close to lecture time...gonna go get my pre-class vape on, and another cup of coffee.
Next blog post: I'll talk about my upcoming lightning talk.
